A Season for letting go

I was on a walk the other day in the beautiful fall weather of the Pacific Northwest and was captivated by the beauty of the fall leaves changing and falling to the ground.  I immediately began thinking of this transformative, natural process that takes place each autumn season and how the earth knows perfectly well how to let go.  As the trees allow their leaves to die and fall to the earth they are promised the quiet solitude of rest in the winter.  They also know that these same leaves that were released will become a part of the earth that will again nourish their roots and bring new growth in the spring.

This year, my birthday fell on the lunar eclipse in Pisces.  I was reminded that this special eclipse season is about encouraging us to let go of old patterns and beliefs that are no longer serving us.  It is a season of letting go, and eclipses are cosmic wake up calls designed to shine a light on what needs to change.  I had also just finished a book I had been reading over the last year, Brianna Weist’s The Pivot Year.  Each day I would read a page and reflect on the insight, followed by a journal entry in the margins.  I took some time on my birthday; the day of the eclipse, to reflect back on my entries over the year and both celebrate the pivots I had made and also search for a theme related to old patterns and beliefs I was holding on to.

What I found was that my letting go was about letting the wind slowly bring the leaves to the ground.  Let me explain . . .

As I have spent the past year also learning deeply about my own Human Design and how to use my strategy and authority to make even the small daily decisions of my life, I have come to understand the dynamic influence of multiple small changes to create big impactful movement.  Like the small leaves quietly falling from the tree limbs, I was making deposits in the soil of my growing life.  The old me would have been looking for a way to break off an entire branch, or analyze how to chop down the old tree in order to make change.  And that was scary.  But here I was just allowing one small energetic step in the direction of my own energy make things happen.

I looked back over those pages, and reflected on the past year and I could see that the next steps of letting go were not so overwhelming.  I looked at those patterns of people pleasing and enabling and saw the growth that had occurred.  And now, this season was asking me again to keep shedding what no longer was serving me.  I was confident in the beauty that was already evident in the year that had transpired.  I could see the fruit that would ripen from this next step in the process.  And once again, I am letting go.

May this season and the beauty of the falling leaves around us be a reminder of how transformative the act of letting go can be.  Step into this season knowing that when you follow your design and use your strategy you can let your energy take the lead and allow those old patterns to fall.
